Kinect for Blind People Navigation

A group of students from the University of Konstanz, Germany, utilizing Kinect not just for playing games as usual, but the Xbox controller is modified so that it can also diganakan as visual aids for the physically blind.

How, the student will take advantage of infrared technology in Kinect camera to capture images. Then the data is successfully recorded was processed through a laptop and translated into audio instruction, and then distributed via bluetooth headset.

The result, based on experiments conducted, Kinect able to recognize some environmental conditions. For example, winding road, or a stalemate. Not only that, this tool is also able to measure the distance between the user with the object in front.

Thereby promised to help the blind navigate. And this discovery was called Navigational Aids for the Visually Impaired (NAVI).
